Did you know household batteries are considered Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)? That means they contain materials that can be
toxic, flammable, corrosive, or otherwise harmful. In California, it’s illegal
to dispose of HHW improperly.
Never place batteries in your waste (black), recycling (blue), or organics
(green) carts. Improperly disposed batteries can:
» Contaminate soil and water
» Harm plants, animals, and human health
» Spark fires and endanger sanitation workers
Safe Disposal Options for Pico Rivera Residents
You have free and convenient ways for proper disposal of batteries and other HHW. You can drop off common household batteries at most City of Pico Rivera facilities, including Pico Park, Smith Park, and City Hall. Residents can contact the City’s Office of Sustainability for details and answers to questions on HHW. You can also contact the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts at 562-908-4288 ext. 2301 or send an email to info@lacsd.org.
